Holding Doors

We’ve all come across this situation. You’re about 10 paces ahead of a person as you approach a door. It’s the kind of door that you push open. Now, if you push the door open and continue on your way, it will be closing just as they reach it. It’s basically smacking into their hands as they push it open. That doesn’t seem very nice does it? If you hold the door open, it may seem a little odd. They’re just far enough behind you that you have to stand there for an unnaturally long amount of time holding the door. The person, and anyone else watching, knows that you’ve gone out of your way to hold the door, which can be awkward in some situations. Which do you choose? I often opt for the “slide-thru”, whereby I quickly push the door open just enough to slide my body through (it doesn’t look as strange as it may sound). That gives the door enough time to close completely before the person gets to it, eliminating the slam-into-their-hands effect.

Now

Don’t take it for granted, because if you ever lose it, you’ll regret every moment you did.

Homework

I hate homework. I hate homework because there’s at least 4 things I’d rather be doing right now. I’d rather be fixing this script because it’s not right. I’d rather be making more videos. I’d rather be finishing the new cover. I’d rather be writing down my thoughts so I don’t forget them before I can write them down. I’d rather be talking to friends. Wait, that’s 5 things. There’s more, but I’d rather not talk about them. For some, homework gives them a chance to get away from their thoughts. For me, it’s just a boring use of time that allows my mind to drift back to those thoughts. I suppose I should get back to my work. Damn, my coke bottle fell over.

MvC2 Soundtrack

I’ve begun posting the songs from Marvel vs Capcom 2. You could call it my version of the “soundtrack”. You can find them here in the MvC2 media collection.

Searching

I left when everyone else left. I planned on going home. I didn’t go home though. I drove past my driveway. I drove to the end of my street and turned onto another street. I drove down that street and onto another. I just kept driving. The radio was playing good music, a broadcast from a club near Detroit I believe. I made a couple of stops. I stopped at a local bar. I drove around the parking lot, looking for what might be a familiar car. I don’t know if I would have gone in even if I had suspected someone I knew was in there. I stopped at the public library, leaned back, listened to the music, and remembered. I wanted to stop for food, but everything was closed. I really didn’t want to stop driving. I almost drove right past my driveway again. I almost got on the expressway. I don’t know where I would have gone. I didn’t have anywhere to go. I just wanted to be away. Away from everything. It felt nice. It was relaxing. I had time to think. Time to reflect. Time to remember. Time to move forward. I wish I could feel like that for days. Or weeks. But now I sit here. I sit here in the same chair, in front of the same computer, in the same room, thinking about the same things. I definitely didn’t make it very far, at least not far enough. I’ll make it though. I will make it.

Wow

I can’t believe I actually did it. I integrated the news posting script with the forum scripts, which means you can reply to or give your input concerning posts on the site in the forums (the last three I did by hand to test things in preparation for the integration). I’ve wanted to do that for about a year, but never had the resources or drive or whatever to do it. Now, it’s done. I know it’s fairly common around the web now, but I feel good cause I did it. There are still a few quirks that need to be worked out, and I have more additions planned, but it works! Wahoo!

Holy Stink

I was walking to the computer lab this morning, minding my own business, when I encountered a horrifyingly strong odor. It smelled like the stairwell had forgotten its deodorant and gone natural for the past 2 weeks. Since, I’m fairly confident that the hallway doesn’t develop a smell on its own (even without deodorant), it can only be that one (or perhaps more) people walked through there that smelled bad enough to leave a stench residue on the walls in the 20 seconds it took them to walk through. It’s probably rubbed off on me now; that would explain the funny looks.

Taco Shells

A few weeks ago I heard about a problem with Taco Bell shells that were in stores. They contained bioengineered corn that was supposedly not suitable for human consumption. It was not known at that time whether the shells in the restaurants contained this material as well. Today, I went to Taco Bell and there was a sign on the drive thru. It said that due to supplier problems, they were out of hard taco shells. Hmm.. suspicious. I found this article. Since I couldn’t get my double decker taco today, I got two bean burritos. Wow, that was a mistake. I feel hoorrrible. I’m sweating and light-headed and tired and sick. *shiver* Yuck.

ICQ

I just realized yesterday that there’s a new icq available, version 2000b. I haven’t really noticed a useful difference since 1999b, but I keep upgrading because I’m a mindless gnome like everyone else (and don’t send me a 15 page email about how gnomes are really very intelligent and free-thinking creatures, because I don’t care.. it just has a good ring to it).

Strider/Mag Clip

I added a short video clip involving a minor glitch with Strider and Magneto. You can find it in the MvC2 Media Section.
