I was in a meeting today, and some people were talking about some stuff. I was listening with one ear until one of the guys says something like, “So, it’s that way irregardless?” And another guy yells out, “Irregardless!!” That snapped me back into the conversation with a chuckle. Sorry dudes, that ain’t no word. I didn’t correct them though, cause I’m a gentleman.

That reminds me of that commercial for some cell phone company I saw a while ago where there’s this boss talking motivationally to his employees, and he says "paradigms" as para-dig-ems and a bunch of other stupid mistakes. I nearly fell off the… floor… when I heard him say that, hehe. I don’t remember the rest though :-/ Hmm, if Ad Critic is back up (I heard it was) it’ll probably be on there.
Anyways (<- not a word!), back to studying …
You shoulda replied to them like this:
"Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so."

Hmm.. yes. Next time I will tell them that. Thanks you.
