Are Wii okay?

WiiWelcomeYouI got a Wii back in January. Some time after that I signed up for my free three issues of Nintendo Power (side note: I still have all of my old Nintendo Power issues from back in the day). For some reason I ended up getting four issues. With the fourth issue came this flyer thing that just talks about cool Wii stuff. The cover of the flyer is to the right. I assume this is for Nintendo Power subscribers that don’t already have a Wii. I read magazines in the bathroom so naturally this flyer ended up on on top of a stack of magazines on the back of the toilet. I’m also a guy, so I spend a fair amount of time standing facing the toilet re-looking at whatever is on the top of the stack on the back of the toilet. After a couple of weeks of looking at this flyer, I realized there’s something odd about it. If you’re interested, click on it to take a closer look before you continue.

Okay, maybe I’m just imagining this, but over half of the Miis on that cover are stoned. At least one of the other ones is hopped up on something else. Is Nintendo trying to tell us something? Or am I just wrong, and the Miis are just really tired?

“Fun” Games

All other things about this article aside, I just found the following completely asinine:

He then shared quotes from executives at Sony and Microsoft talking about games as a serious artistic medium, and then a quote from a Nintendo executive saying the company only wanted to make “fun” games.

If I didn’t know better, I would have thought the article was a satire piece. Wait, is it? Maybe it’s a ruse. Or maybe not. I mean, he does have a point. Fun games do usually suck.

Granted I’ve gotten to a point where I prefer a game with a smaller learning curve and the ability to get enjoyment out of playing for just a few minutes (so take my opinion for what it’s worth), but as a general rule I play games to have fun. If I’m not having fun playing a game after the first few minutes, it’s likely I won’t continue trying.

First, I got one.

Then, we played it. Four player tennis absolutely rocks, BTW.

Then, it broke. Dammit.

A new one is on the way, though. So that’s good at least.

Update! And now the new one has arrived.
